Parenting teenagers can feel like navigating a maze without a map. Their moods shift, their behavior puzzles, and their emotions run deep. Understanding what’s happening inside the teenage brain can make a big difference in how parents connect and support their teens. That’s why we are excited to invite parents to a special session of The Loft Series on Thursday, November 20th, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This session focuses on parenting the teenage brain, with a clear look at mental health and development.
Why Understanding the Teenage Brain Matters
Teenagers are not just “mini adults.” Their brains are still developing, especially in areas that control decision-making, emotions, and impulse control. This development affects how teens respond to stress, handle emotions, and interact with the world around them.
Parents often face challenges such as mood swings, risk-taking behaviors, and communication breakdowns. These challenges are rooted in the brain’s ongoing growth and the pressures teens face today. By learning about these changes, parents can respond with empathy and set boundaries that support healthy development.
What You Will Learn in the Parents Only Session
The session, led by Melissa Cormier, a Mental Health & Addictions Consultant, will provide practical tools and insights to help parents:
Understand the structure and function of the teenage brain
Recognize how stress and emotions influence teen behavior
Learn strategies to parent with empathy while maintaining clear boundaries
Build stronger connections through real conversations
This interactive session will give parents a chance to ask questions and share experiences in a supportive environment. The goal is to equip parents with knowledge and confidence to support their teens’ mental health and growth.

How This Session Can Help Your Family
Many parents feel overwhelmed by the changes their teens go through. This session will help you:
See your teen’s behavior through the lens of brain development
Respond to emotional outbursts with understanding rather than frustration
Set limits that respect your teen’s growing independence
Improve communication and reduce conflict
For example, understanding that the prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for planning and impulse control—is still maturing can explain why teens sometimes act impulsively. Knowing this helps parents avoid harsh punishments and instead guide teens with patience and clear expectations.
What to Expect on November 20th
The session will be interactive and welcoming. Melissa Cormier will share research-based information and practical advice. You will have opportunities to discuss real-life scenarios and learn from other parents’ experiences.
This is a chance to connect with other parents who share similar challenges and goals. You will leave with tools that can be used immediately to support your teen’s mental health and development.
Looking Ahead: More Sessions to Come
The Loft Series will continue with additional sessions focused on different aspects of parenting and family life. Each session will be open for individual registration, allowing you to choose topics that matter most to your family.
Stay tuned for announcements about future sessions. For now, don’t miss this important first step in understanding and supporting your teen.
